On a bigger lot, the fence is a long run and the gate is often a driveway gate. Both fail the same way: posts that are too shallow and gates that hang off too little. We set posts deep in concrete and build every gate leaf on a braced frame.
Our Surrey job closed off a 13 ft driveway opening with three hinged cedar leaves on heavy hinges, drop bolts and wheels, and a new 6 ft cedar privacy fence to match. The owners wanted the yard closed for the kids and the dog, without a gate that would sag.
